Amazon Web Services Ireland creates 1,000 tech jobs

A new Amazon Web Services (AWS) office in central Dublin has created the opportunity for 1,000 technology jobs. Amazon are seeking employees to fill roles such as software developers and data centre engineers and are looking to recruit over the next two years.

Having opened on Monday, the new office covering 170,000 square feet will also offer highly skilled roles for network development, system engineers and security and big data specialists.

In addition to this, AWS will be offering a collection of new tech jobs in a couple of their other offices in Dublin- Blanchardstown and Tallaght. This derives from the company wanting to utilise the tech talent in the country.

AWS’s Ireland country manager, Mike Beary says:

“Today, we have more than 2,500 Amazon employees in Ireland supporting customers from Ireland and around the world. There is an abundance of talent in Ireland which helped us to exceed our talent growth targets ahead of schedule. Ireland is a great place to do business, the country’s creative culture and diverse pool of technical skills make it an ideal location for our rapidly expanding business.”

The first office set up in Ireland was back in 2004, proving that Amazon Web Services and Ireland’s 14 year relationship has remained successfully innovative and profitable. This can be exemplified through the instance that more than 1,000 of AWS’s Ireland employees are currently engaged in data centre operations.

Along with generating a large sum of new jobs, Amazon Web Services have collaborated with the Institute of Technology Tallaght (IT Tallaght) in order to fund a bursary programme to give 20 students the opportunity to study to become data centre technicians.

Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland – a government agency that motivates investment into Ireland from foreign owned companies, adds:

“Amazon has a long history of success in Ireland and today’s announcement is a testament to Ireland’s highly-skilled, diverse workforce. Tech talent and investment are fundamental to our country’s continued growth, and companies like Amazon are bringing even more energy, vision, innovation and good jobs to Ireland. We are proud to support these companies, who invest in our talent and the future of our economy, and create new opportunities for the country to succeed.”
